About Us

Yellow Dog Adventures came about after several trips, solo and with others, in our Winnebago Revel 4×4 van. After retiring early, we had time to travel and learn a lot. We decided we wanted to share what we’ve learned with others, so we created Yellow Dog Adventures (named after our two yellow labs, Riley and Huckleberry).

Mike Faber
Mike retired from ExxonMobil in 2020 and has been training and guiding 4×4 adventurers since 2022. In the pursuit of providing higher quality trips and training, Mike discovered the I4WDTA (International Four Wheel Drive Trainers Association). The I4WDTA certifies offroad educators based on knowledge, skills and the ability to impart that knowledge and those skills to others.

In 2025 Mike became a probationary member of the International Four Wheel Drive Trainers Association (I4WDTA).

Karen Faber
Karen retired from marketing and program management for trade associations in 2017. She spent a few years coaching distance runners and organizing running clubs, and is currently pursuing running a marathon or longer in every U.S. state. Karen has a natural skillset of trip planning and managing groups through extended travel. She can easily spend hours finding campsites, researching history and geography, and planning itineraries for fun – doing so for groups was a perfect fit.
